Cyclone Tauktae Live Updates:

Under the influence of Cyclone Tauktae, extremely heavy rainfall is being experienced in Kerala, Karnataka, Goa as well as parts of Maharashtra.

There will be strong winds and heavy rainfall at isolated places on May 17 over north Konkan, including Mumbai, the IMD said.

Cyclone Tauktae Live Updates: The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Tauktae could cause heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places in north Konkan, Mumbai, Thane and Palghar in Maharashtra on May 17, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.

The Met department has predicted extremely heavy rainfall in Raigad on Monday. The IMD had informed the Mumbai civic body that Mumbai is not in the direct line of the threat of the cyclone. However, as it will pass through the sea near the Mumbai coast, its effect is likely to be accompanied by rain and strong winds.

The Very Severe Cyclonic Storm Tauktae over eastcentral Arabian Sea moved north-northwestwards with a speed of about 16 kmph during past 6 hours and lay centred over eastcentral Arabian Sea near latitude 16.2°N and longitude 72.6°E at 1430 hours IST on Sunday, about 150 km west-northwest of Panjim-Goa, 320 km south-southwest of Mumbai, 570 km south-southeast of Veraval (Gujarat), 530 km south-southeast of Diu and 740 km southeast of Karachi (Pakistan). It is very likely to intensify further during next 24 hours. It is very likely to move north-northwestwards and reach Gujarat coast in the evening hours of 17th & cross Gujarat coast between Porbandar & Mahuva (Bhavnagar district) around 18th May early morning.

Cyclone Tauktae had reached Goa by late Sunday afternoon. Gusty winds, high tides and heavy rainfall will continue in Goa for the entire day today, the IMD said. Power supply in majority areas of Goa was disrupted as several electric poles got uprooted due to the high speed winds, state Power Minister Nilesh Cabral told PTI.

Under its influence extreme heavy rainfall is being experienced in Kerala, Karnataka, Goa as well as parts of Maharashtra. These states are on a high vigil with transport services suspended and emergency and relief teams on the lookout for possible after-effects.
